The Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, has inspected the construction of a new block of classrooms, a kindergarten hall, and offices being built by SOS Children’s Villages in the Zawan community.
During the site visit, the Chairman commended the NGO for its consistent corporate social responsibility within the local government area. He described the project as a significant intervention.
The Deputy ALGON Chairman emphasized the collaborative relationship between the NGO and the local government, stating that while SOS provides the infrastructure, the council secures the school, creating a complementary partnership for the community’s benefit.
He revealed that this was not the first intervention by SOS, recalling that just a few months prior, the organization had donated hospital equipment to a local clinic. Beyond these large-scale projects, he also highlighted the NGO’s support for women’s groups and young entrepreneurs, providing business grants and start-up equipment for ventures in catering, barbing, and salon services.
The local government chairman encouraged SOS Children’s Villages to extend its hand of goodwill to other communities within Jos South.
The new educational facility in Zawan is part of a national program, with Plateau State being one of the two selected states chosen for such interventions by SOS Children’s Villages, the largest NGO focused on supporting children without parental care or at risk of losing it.
